Privacy policy

This policy explains how BettaHabit (Pty) Ltd ("BettaHabit", "we") collects, uses and protects your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). We are the responsible party for the information described here.
The short version
- The 2-minute check runs on your device. Nothing you enter is sent to us.
- Your medical record is kept by the independent practice that treats you, not by us.
- We use your details to run your membership, deliver orders and reply to you. We never sell personal information.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time.

What we collect, and why
When you browse this website
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and working. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
When you take the 2-minute check or use a calculator
Your answers are processed in your browser and are not sent to us or stored. We can't see them.
When you contact us or book
Your name, contact details and what you tell us, so we can reply and arrange your consult. Please don't send medical details by email or message; your doctor will go through them with you.
When you order supplements
Your name, contact details, delivery address and order history, so we can deliver and support your order. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we don't see or store your full card details.
When you join a programme
Your contact details, your goals, and the information you choose to share with your coach, such as habit check-ins, weight or waist measurements and messages. Some of this is health information, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We only process it with your explicit consent, for the purpose of coaching you, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Your medical record
Consultations are provided by independent, HPCSA-registered doctors. The practice is the responsible party for your medical record and keeps it under its own professional and legal duties of confidentiality. Prescriptions go to the pharmacy you choose, which keeps its own dispensing records.
With your consent, the practice may share a summary with us, such as your agreed goals and the timing of your reviews, so your coach can support you. We do not receive your full medical record.
Who we share information with
Only those who need it to provide the service, under agreements that require them to protect it:
- The medical practice and pharmacy involved in your care, with your consent
- Couriers, to deliver your orders
- Our payment provider, to take payments
- Service providers who host our systems, send messages or provide software, acting on our instructions as operators under POPIA
- Authorities, where the law requires it
We never sell personal information or share it for other companies' marketing.
Information sent outside South Africa
Some of our service providers, such as messaging and cloud services, store information on servers outside South Africa. We only use providers that are bound by laws or agreements giving a level of protection similar to POPIA.
How long we keep it
Only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires (for example, financial records are kept for tax purposes). Coaching information is deleted or anonymised within 12 months after your membership ends, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
How we protect it
Access is limited to people who need it, systems are protected with strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and information is encrypted in transit. If a breach affecting your information happens, we'll tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Confirm whether we hold information about you, and give you a copy
- Correct or delete information that is wrong, out of date or no longer needed
- Stop processing your information, or withdraw your consent
- Stop sending you marketing, at any time, using the opt-out in any message
Email privacy@bettahabit.com. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
Cookies
We use only the browser storage needed to make the site work, such as remembering an ad campaign tag during your visit so a booking can be attributed. We don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies.
Marketing
We'll only send you marketing if you've agreed to it, or if you're a customer and the message is about similar products or services, in which case every message lets you opt out.
Children
Our programmes and products are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Access to information
Our manual under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) is available on request from privacy@bettahabit.com.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and, for significant changes, tell you directly.
